Torn between the Kindle Paperwhite and Basic

With the Black Friday deals, I’ve been seriously thinking about getting my first Kindle. I currently read on the Kindle app on my phone, but I’m torn between the Paperwhite and the Basic. I’ve watched tons of comparison videos, and the warm light on the Paperwhite really appeals to me.

Here’s my situation:
  • I usually read for 3+ hours at a time, and if I have the time, I can read all day. After long sessions on my phone, my eyes feel strained (even with the blue light filter), my wrist hurts, and I sometimes get headaches.
  • I travel a lot for work, so portability is a factor.
  • I have smaller hands, so I like how lightweight and compact the Basic is, but its screen feels a bit too close in size to my phone.
  • The Paperwhite’s warm light and larger screen seem great for reducing eye strain, but it’s less comfortable for me to hold.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice. Which Kindle do you think would suit my needs better?
