It looks like Onyx has significantly increased the prices of their Boox ereaders and eNotes in the U.S., with hikes ranging from $10 to $40 across various models. Unlike past temporary increases, this one seems to be sticking, affecting all purchases made directly from their website and Amazon store.
While most models have seen a price jump, a few exceptions remain. The Boox Go 10.3 is still listed at $379 at B&H (though it’s $409 elsewhere), and the first-gen Palma is still on sale for $199 on Onyx’s site. However, based on past trends, Onyx only discounts older models after a newer version is released, meaning customers shouldn’t expect a broad sale anytime soon.
The price hikes may deter some potential buyers, especially since Onyx devices were already among the priciest in the market. However, given that Onyx doesn’t profit from ebook sales like Amazon or Kobo, they rely more on hardware sales, which may explain the increases. Meanwhile, Kobo and Pocketbook have also raised their prices, but Kindle and Nook prices remain unchanged—for now.
Boox Old Prices vs. New Prices:
• Boox Go 6: $149 → $159
• Boox Page: $219 → $239
• Boox Go Color 7: $249 → $269
• Boox Palma 2: $279 → $299
• Boox Go 10.3: $379 → $409
• Note Air4 C: $499 → $529
• Tab Ultra C Pro: $599 → $629
• Note Max: $649 → $689
For those considering an Onyx ereader, the price increase may be a dealbreaker—but for those specifically looking for an open Android E Ink device, the premium might still be worth it.
