Is Kobo good for reading scientific PDFs and how does It perform in sunlight?

I’m looking for a device to read scientific articles in PDF format. Has anyone tried using a Kobo for this kind of task? How well does it handle PDFs?

Also, how readable is the text on a Kobo screen under direct sunlight? I find conventional tablets almost impossible to read outdoors, so I’m curious if e-ink screens are better for this.

Kobo devices are pretty decent for reading scientific PDFs, especially models with larger screens like the Kobo Elipsa or Sage. They support PDF annotations and zooming, but complex layouts can sometimes feel a bit sluggish compared to tablets.

As for sunlight, e-ink screens shine! They’re much better than conventional tablets outdoors, with no glare and excellent readability, even in direct sunlight. If PDFs are a big part of your reading, I’d recommend testing a larger-screen Kobo to see if it meets your needs. 😊

If you're reading a lot of PDFs, I’d suggest looking into Kobo’s “zoom” feature—it can help with resizing text, but keep in mind that it may not be as smooth as on a tablet.

If you often need to adjust layouts or work with complex documents, it might take a little longer to get used to.

However, for simple reading, the Kobo definitely offers a more comfortable outdoor reading experience with its e-ink screen and great sunlight visibility.
