Ad-supported Kindle users who want to skip the $20 fee to remove ads have two alternative methods, each with trade-offs:
1. Use the “Screen Off” Feature
• Hold the power button for ~6 seconds and select Screen Off to display a blank screen instead of ads.
• Pros: No ads, no need to swipe to unlock.
• Cons: None significant.
2. Activate Kids Mode
• Set up a child profile under Settings, replacing ads with random screensavers.
• Pros: No ads.
• Cons: Limited to Amazon-purchased books; swiping to unlock is still required.
Amazon’s ad policy remains unique to its Kindles, frustrating many users as device prices rise. These methods help bypass ads but come with limitations.
