Amazon has laid off over 100 employees from its Devices and Services division, including those working on Kindle, Echo, and Alexa. This marks another cut following the 2022 layoffs of 11,000 staff due to product unprofitability—reportedly losing $5 billion annually. The Kindle, once a flagship product, now sees minimal innovation and serves mainly to sell e-books. With declining sales—Amazon recently fell out of the top 10 in global tablet rankings—the company faces increasing challenges. Additionally, changes that alienate long-term Kindle users have pushed many to switch to competitors like Kobo and Barnes & Noble.
