Amazon and Bloomsbury Publishing have resolved a months-long dispute over their agreement to sell e-books and print titles. For the past two months, e-books were sold without a formal contract, and tensions escalated when it appeared that Harry Potter books and other bestsellers would be pulled from Amazon, causing significant concern in the publishing industry.
Amazon stated that it had extended the existing contract several times in hopes of reaching a new agreement, but accused Bloomsbury of not engaging in good faith negotiations. The latest extension expired on January 23rd, leading to a potential halt in the sale of Bloomsbury titles on Amazon in the UK, Europe, and Australia, as well as Kindle e-books globally.
Fortunately, the two companies have now reached an agreement in principle, as confirmed by Amazon on January 23rd. Bloomsbury’s print and digital books, including popular series such as A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, will remain available on Amazon platforms.
This resolution ensures continued access to Bloomsbury’s bestsellers for customers worldwide.
